Annie Deans

The Deans monument is a tall, white marble pillar with a statue of Faith on top. It was carved by George Kirsop, one of Victoria's most talented monument makers.

1833-1890
Block: H
Plot: 71 E 20

Annie Deans came from Scotland to Victoria by sailing ship around Cape Horn in 1853. Her husband George had been hired to work at Craigflower farm. George and Annie later bought their own farm.

Annie wrote many letters to her family in Scotland. These are the oldest letters written by a woman that describe daily life in Victoria in the early 1850s.
