Monument Art
Grave memorials are a clear indication of social status, wealth, religious
affiliation, decade of burial and even the philosophical outlook of the deceased.
Memorials also change by region and cemetery type. Roman Catholic cemeteries exhibit
far more crosses than other cemeteries. Many grave memorials portray a great deal of
symbolism both in shape and ornamentation. These are the monument styles most commonly found in British
Columbia cemeteries.
