  • MONUMENT COORDINATOR: Train new monument recorders and assign them areas to record. Occasionally may be required to put on a small workshop at Ross Bay Cemetery. Late spring to late fall job.
  • MONUMENT CLEANING AT ROSS BAY CEMETERY: This job starts in late spring and can continue until mid fall. The coordinator trains new people in the correct process of monument cleaning and assigns monuments that need to be worked on. Group cleanings are arranged but one can also work alone by arranging access to the cleaning materials. No set time commitment – flexible.
  • MONUMENT RECORDING AT ROSS BAY CEMETERY: This entails recording detailed information of monuments onto inventory forms in designated areas. The coordinator provides training and the area to be recorded. This is mostly a spring to fall job as it is too cold in winter. No set time commitment – flexible.
  • INFORMATION FAIR HELPER: Take a shift, if possible together with one other person, at the information table at a volunteer or community fair. The purpose is to promote Old Cemeteries Society, the work we do, and to gain members and volunteers. This happens about five or six times a year but the same people do not need to be available each time.
  • SECURITY PATROL: This is held on one or two nights in Ross Bay Cemetery, coinciding with Halloween, from 8pm until 1am, there being two different shifts. Patrollers walk around the cemetery in pairs in order to deter vandalism. This is not a confrontational job as the city also provides security; it is just a matter of providing a greater presence in the cemetery. Refreshments and a space in the caretakers hut, for respite from weather, are provided.
  • CLOTHING SELLER: Selling OCS t-shirts and sweat shirts at members’ evening close to Christmas, at the Halloween walking tour, and a few other occasions as required.
  • TOUR GUIDES: Required for special events at Halloween and Fairfield Plaza Days, also school tours (should have teaching background or be very familiar with giving tours for youth), history tours (experience and knowledge required)
  • HELPERS FOR HALLOWEEN WALKING TOUR OF RBC: Grand Marshall to send of groups of participants with pilots; pilots guide groups from site to site in cemetery; crossing guards hold up traffic to allow group to safely cross road.
